Wylam Brewery - The Ultimate Wedding Guide
If you take a stroll through Newcastle's Exhibition Park, you’re likely to come across a proper little hidden gem. Well, we say little, but it isn’t exactly small! Wylam Brewery is made for those couples who are looking for something a little bit different.
Housed in the historic Palace of Arts, Wylam Brewery has a distinctive rustic-meets-industrial vibe, and it’s packed full of character. It's a space that doesn't need frills to impress - perfect for couples who want their wedding to reflect a bit of themselves.
I LOVE photographing weddings at Wylam. There are so many cool spaces and quirky backdrops, not to mention the gorgeous Exhibition Park right on the doorstep.
So let’s take a little look around Wylam Brewery, and see what it has to offer!
Wylam Brewery Ceremony Spaces
The Grand Hall
Talk about grand. With its soaring domed ceilings and art deco features, the Grand Hall is the heart of Wylam Brewery. Licensed for civil ceremonies, it comfortably seats up to 200 guests and is usually the spot where you’ll have your ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception, with festivities spilling out into the Foyer
As a photographer, the light that falls into this room is absolutely dreamy, you get these mega stunning slices of light that are so beautiful and we can find loads of ways to be creative with them during a portrait session. They also illuminate people during your ceremony and speeches depending on the season and the weather and really make this space so artistic and unique.
The hall's built-in stage is perfect for live bands or DJs, and with Wylam being an events space hosting all kinds of live musical acts, you just know the sound system is on-point for Uncle Dave’s late-night dad dancing.
The Hall seats up to 200 guests, with a ton of flexibility for various layouts.
Reception Spaces
Post-ceremony, the Grand Hall transforms into a flashy reception area. The space accommodates dining, dancing, and everything in between. With three bars, and ample room for seating and entertainment, your guests can celebrate in the main hall, mooch out into the Foyer, or get a breath of fresh air looking out into the park from across the lake. Dreamy.
Also, here’s a fun fact: every drop of Wylam beer is brewed on-site at The Palace. You’re getting the freshest of fresh pints, poured straight from the source. Not into beer? No problem – there’s a dedicated gin bar and some cracking cocktails on offer too.
Wedding photography at Wylam Brewery
Wylam Brewery is one of those super-dynamic spots that wedding photographers (like me), absolutely LOVE. Inside, you’ve got that high, domed ceiling, tons of exposed brick work and parquet floors. You’ve also got a ton of quirky spots to capture some stunning couple’s portraits.
Outside, you’ve got Exhibition Park and the lake literally on your doorstep – perfect for a quiet couple’s wander or golden-hour portraits. And if you’re up for it, we can even sneak a few shots inside the working brewery itself. It’s not every day you get photos with the actual brewing kit in the background – but it’s all part of what makes Wylam weddings so different.
Accessibility & Accomodation
Wylam Brewery is just a short stroll from Newcastle's city center, meaning the venue is really easily accessible for guests traveling from near or far.
While Wylam Brewery doesn't offer on-site accommodation, there are a ton of hotels and guesthouses nearby.
There’s plenty of parking, and the venue's central location has easy access to public transport and taxi services. They also have their cutie little golf buggy to help any folk get around the outdoor spaces.
Wylam Brewery weddings - food, drink and decor
One of the benefits of getting married in a working brewery is you get to enjoy the product, on the site it’s produced! Even if you aren’t really into craft beers, it’s worth trying one out (just to say you’ve done it). There’s also a lush little gin bar serving up some cute cocktails.
Food-wide, the venue offers some delish in-house catering options, with menus that can be tailored to you and your preferences. The evening street food is delish, and the main menu has some real hearty treats on there - it’s a bit of classic meets contemporary.
There are food and drink packages available, but it all works around a minimum spend. That changes depending on the season, the day of the week, or whether there’s an event on – so it’s definitely worth chatting to the venue to get a clear idea of costs. Just drop the team a message and they’ll help you build something that works for your priorities.
Speaking of the team at Wylam, they’re on hand to assist with planning and ensure your day runs smoothly, and one of my favourite things about Wylam is the freedom to really make the day your own. I’ve known couples who’ve made EVERYTHING for their big day, including decorations, growing their own flowers and making their own sweets - and Wylam Brewery is totally cool with you making the space your own.
Oh – and if you fancy it, you can even add on a private brewery tour as part of your day. It’s currently £150, or included in some of the bigger packages. Ideal for the beer nerds in your guest list.
